How to transfer Files from Computer to Android device?

  • Install & launch the Android app
  • Install & launch the Computer client
  • Both devices will discover each other immediately
  • You can now transfer files between the devices
    (Extra tip: Using the computer client, you can drag&drop files to an Android device)



What to do when Computer and Android device don't find each other?

  • Make sure Wi-File Transfer is running on both devices
  • Make sure both devices are connected to the same network
  • Check if computer firewall is not blocking Wi-FileTransfer. (Change firewall settings)
  • Make sure you have the latest version of Wi-File Transfer installed
  • Restart the application on both devices
  • Check if your firewall is not blocking Wi-File Transfer
  • If problems persist: contact me



How to check/change Windows firewall settings?

  • By default Windows firewall will not allow Wi-File Transfer to run on public networks, which results in the Android device and Computer not discovering each other.
  • To verify if Windows firewall is preventing the application from running:
    • Go to the Windows network and sharing center: Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center
    • Your screen should look similar to this:
    • Wi-File Transfer is allowed to run if you see "Home Network" or "Work Network" below your network name. (no need to do anything)
    • Windows firewall is blocking Wi-File Transfer if you see "Public Network" below your network name. Follow the instructions below.
  • To stop Windows Firewall from blocking the application:
    • Press the "Public network" link below your network name:
    • Select "Home network" or "Work network"
    • Restart the computer client.

Can I select multiple files on Android to send to the computer?

  • No, unfortunately you can't as Android doesn't support this out of the box
  • This is however a know feature request and I'm looking into it



Does the Android app also support tablets?

  • Yes, Wi-File Transfer will work on any Android tablet
  • However, the UI is currently not yet optimized to benefit from larger screens. 



Which platforms are supported?

  • Mobile platforms: Android smartphones and tablets
  • Computer: Windows, MAC and Linux



What features can we still expect?

  • Authentication: confirm each transfer before receive + manage a list of trusted devices
  • Tablet UI: optimized UI for tablets
  • Adjustable download folder
  • Android "Share intent" to send directly from a file explorer
  • Improved task management (eg. cancel tasks)
